Mindful Consumption and Black Friday Weekend
Posted on 20 November 2017
Black Friday is just a few days away, kicking off the biggest consumer weekend of the year. It’s something that has been on my mind for a while, as I try to figure out how a brand focused on intentional consuming fits into a culture of over-consumption. Over the last couple years, this small business has grown and changed, from four seasonal collections, to two, to no seasonal collections at all. Moving away from the traditional fashion calendar has allowed us to focus on what is important, and be creative in a way that is still mindful.
To that end, we will be offering discounts this weekend, as I love the idea of making our clothing more accessible for those who may have been saving a while for a piece. Mindful consumption vs. compulsory spending. With our new collection format, it is very unlikely that pieces will go on sale. Part of that is our made-to-order business model, where we make every item specifically for you. We aren’t left with clothing that is unclaimed, unless it’s a sample piece (more on that at a later date).
The other is the switch to fabrics that are always available. Offering clothing that will be around for years to come is our way of breaking away from fast fashion. We choose natural, well-made fabrics that are made to last—yet at some point, with many wears, all natural fibers will begin to break down. You know when you’ve had that favorite top, or a pair of jeans you wear all the time—and it gives out after daily use? It’s such a disappointment to not be able to repurchase the item. Our goal is to have that staple piece in your wardrobe available for years to come, not to put out trendy items you toss after one season.
Giving a discount on Black Friday/Small Business Saturday weekend is also about rewarding our customers who are supporting a small business. You could choose to spend your hard-earned money elsewhere, but you are choosing us. It’s so heartening to know that companies dreamed up by people who are passionate about what they do, and the way that they do it, can still have a place today. So Friday, November 24 through Monday, November 27, you can get $25 off a purchase of $120 or more with the code TAKE25, and $50 off a purchase of $200 or more with the code TAKE50. As always, you will get free priority shipping with a purchase of two items or more. All orders placed during this time, and up until December 1st, will arrive before December 23rd. Thank you for letting us do what we love to do.
